Using the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ Standards of Excellence accreditation tool as a model, the WCCF has developed a charity governance certificate program to help improve the governance practices of charities in Washington County.

The certificate program is presented in six sessions using local content experts. To provide for the greatest interaction and learning experience, each class is limited to approximately 12 participants. All sessions are free and held in the CARE Education Center in Eighty Four, PA.

After successful completion, participants will be certified as a Community PILLAR. Over time, special WCCF grant pools may be provided to charities whose leadership has been designated as a Community PILLAR. We anticipate hosting one PILLARS class each year.

After a successful inaugural year in 2023 that graduated 12 Community PILLARS, this comprehensive governance training program will convene a new class this fall.

Sessions for 2024 are:

  • September 30: Mission, Strategy & Evaluation – Wendy Burtner
  • October 10: Governance & Leadership – Dr. Geraldine Jones
  • October 17: Legal Compliance & Ethics - Rachel Lozosky, Esquire
  • October 22: Finance & Operations - Michael Anderson, CPA
  • October 28: Fundraising & Resource Development – George Omiros, CFRE
  • November 4: Public Awareness & Advocacy – Megan Chicone

Sessions are held at the WCCF from 3:00 to 5:30 pm and participants are expected to attend all sessions.

If you are a nonprofit employee in Washington County and would like to be considered for the Class of 2024, please send an email with your biographical information to allocations@wccf.net by July 31. Those selected for participation will be notified in August. There is no fee for the program.
