To help improve the board governance of local nonprofits, the Foundation initiated, on a trial basis, a new Board Development Grant program earlier this year.

A total of $213,552 in grants from the Range Resources Good Neighbors Fund at the Washington County Community Foundation was recently awarded to 49 first responder organizations in Range Resource’s core operating area. The grants will help purchase a variety of items including rescue tools, personal protective equipment, and communication devices as well as support critical facility upgrades.

The Foundation is currently seeking applications for its Presidential Awards, which are presented at two levels: the Silver level that includes a $25,000 grant and the Crystal level that includes a $10,000 grant. The deadline for both levels is July 1.

Samuel and Catherine Brownlee have returned home in celebration of Beltane on this May 1 with the help of local artist, Jessica Burkley. Ms. Burkley used small portraits obtained from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to create a pair of stylized paintings for Catherine and Samuel. The portraits serve as a wonderful addition to the Brownlee House Heritage Rooms, which have been curated to tell the story of how wealthy Scottish immigrants, like the Brownlee Family, might have lived on the 19th century American frontier.

The Washington County Community Foundation has cumulatively awarded close to $12 million in unrestricted grants to Washington County charities through WCCF Gives. Each year, this annual community-wide giving event is supported by thousands of donors and provides grants to more than 100 local charities providing diverse programs throughout Washington County.

The WCCF is currently seeking applications from local nonprofits for internship grants.
