Community Foundation Awards $230,000 in Capacity-Building Grants

Eighty Four, PA – The Washington County Community Foundation makes grants to a wide range of organizations for very diverse needs. It recently awarded $230,000 in capacity-building grants to 17 organizations from a variety of component funds. Capacity-building is defined as any activity that increases the nonprofit’s operational, programmatic, financial, or organizational maturity.

The majority of grants were issued for equipment and material purchases. Beyond Survival Ministries received $10,000 for new laptops, printers, and workstations. Blueprints received $25,000 for 22 new laptops for staff and program use. California Area Historical Society received $5,000 for a copier and Microsoft Access to assist in digitizing its artifact collection. A $15,000 grant will enable Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA to purchase three desktop computers, a portable touch screen monitor, and a Promethean interactive display board. Both Serenity Farms and VetPets will each receive $5,000 for work stations and related office supplies.

Charleroi School District would like to increase its capacity to provide career readiness and school-to-work programs aimed at technology-focused construction trades.

Program expansion grants were awarded to five charities, including $35,000 to Charleroi Area School District to expand STEAM career readiness programs. The City of Washington Citywide Development Corporation will rehabilitate blighted homes with a $15,000 grant and Club Serenity will purchase a vehicle to transport individuals in recovery to essential services with a $25,000 grant. Genesis of Pittsburgh received $5,000 for the expansion of distributing essential goods into Charleroi. The Greenbriar Treatment Center received $10,000 to enhance its music therapy, meditation, and library rooms.

Presbyterian SeniorCare is aiming to elevate overall satisfaction for both residents and their families while enhancing our care delivery model.

A financial process improvement grant of $5,000 was awarded to the Marianna Outdoorsmen Association to purchase QuickBooks and a new computer.

Two grants were awarded for data management improvement. CASA for Kids and the Washington Hospital Foundation each received $15,000.

Communications is a focus area of the Foundation, and three grants were issued here. Presbyterian SeniorCare Network received $10,000 to implement a communication system in the Washington Campus. Grants of $15,000 each will be awarded to Resurrection Power and Washington Community Theatre to work with Tungsten Creative Group on new websites.
