Community Foundation Accepting Applications for Capacity-Building Grants

F

Eighty Four, PA - The Washington County Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for capacity-building grant requests ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. A minimum of $500,000 will be awarded through two competitive cycles this year, with initial applications due April 1, 2024 or October 1, 2024.

The grants are primarily targeted to 501(c)(3) charities, although other nonprofits who are requesting support for a charitable project as defined by the Internal Revenue Service, may be considered. Applications are being accepted via the Foundation’s website at www.wccf.net.

Capacity-building is defined as any activity that increases the non-profit’s operational, programmatic, financial, or organizational maturity. However, applications for financial process improvements, including initial audits, will be given priority.

“We have targeted financial process improvement because a significant number of local charities need help in this area,” remarked WCCF President & CEO Betsie Trew. “Audited financial statements are both a management tool and a development tool. Managers can better make decisions about a charity’s operations if they have accurate financial information. And donors, both institutional and individual, are more likely to provide financial support to charities who are audited annually by an independent auditing firm.”

Cumulatively, the Foundation has distributed more than $5 million in capacity-building grants since the program was initiated in late 2017. Questions may be directed to the Foundation at 724-222-6330 or allocations@wccf.net.
