The Dr. William & Nora McMahon Fund was originally created by their children as a Christmas gift to them. In 2016, Dr. McMahon requested that the fund be renamed the Nora Vallano McMahon Fund in memory of his wife after her passing in December 2015.
The loving, dedicated and devoted wife of Dr. William J. McMahon and ever-supportive mother of seven children, Mrs. McMahon was born July 8, 1933, in Greensburg, as the daughter of Josephine and Pasquale Vallano.
A graduate of Greensburg High School and Seton Hill University, she received a dietetic Internship at Mass General Hospital and worked as a research dietitian at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and a dietetic instructor at Carnegie Tech and Margaret Morrison College. She was also a dietitian at Washington Hospital - Extended Care Facility.
She had a thirst to learn and to be productive in all aspects of life, enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, singing, and traveling, and was past president of Symphony South Organization. A lifelong student of the Bible and her Christian faith, she loved to distribute Bibles to the community and those challenged, including firefighters in New York City and students in Sarasota, Fla. She was a true inspiration to her family, always loved life, and will be deeply missed.
The Fund will exclusively provide charitable grants to John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Washington, Pennsylvania, to support the professional development and continuing education of the school's faculty and administration.
