Mission
Washington County Gay Straight Alliance, Inc. is dedicated to affirming acceptance between diverse groups of people, raising awareness in our community of the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Questioning, Queer, Asexual, and Allied (LGBTQA) people through support, education, and community outreach on the issues of diversity. WCGSA, Inc. provides a safe, confidential environment for individuals of Washington County and the surrounding areas regardless of sex, race, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
Programs and Services
- The Washington County Gay Straight Alliance, Inc. has facilitated programming and provided resources for LGBTQA+ youth since 2005.
- We formed as a nonprofit Corp. in August, 2012, and received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in July of 2014. We moved to The CENTER on Strawberry, a welcoming community center, in Jan. 2017 to enable us to expand programming and services to all ages in a safe space.
- Our programming includes Strawberry Preserves Senior Group ages 50+, Smart Recovery, Recovery Dharma, and Trans Peer Group.
- Some of our social programming and events include the annual Washington PA PRIDE Festival, Tuesday Game Night, 2nd Friday Nights monthly dinner, and Drop-In hours every Sunday.
- We table resources in the community at many gatherings including Juneteenth, W&J, First Presbyterian Church 1793, Int'l Overdose Awareness Day, and the Farmer's Market to name a few.
