Charleroi Area Public Library*

Mission

The CAPL Library loans books and other materials to residents of Charleroi and the surrounding areas and communities. As a free library, it grants access to over 100,00 items through the Washington Library network. These resources include reference materials, books, periodicals, AV material and manipulatives to be used at home or in the space at the library. The resources engage the public in lifelong learning. The CAPL Library provides opportunities to members of every age and status. CAPL hosts story times, and certification courses throughout the year. In the past few years, CAPL has doubled the expenditures in adult and children programming. Topics are dependent on the requests and interests of the community and every aspect of growth from early childhood education to economic development. CAPL recognizes the influence of technology has on today's environment and the importance of current equipment. CAPL upgrades networks and hardware, when necessary, in order to provide the most effective and relevant resources possible. CAPL has access to multiple technology kits, designed to provide hands-on learning experiences in fields as robotics, at no cost to patrons.

Programs and Services

  • The Charleroi Area Public Library (CAPL), formerly the John K. Tener Library, services the municipalities within the Charleroi Area School District, as well as communities within the Washington County Library System (WAGGIN). Once a United States Post Office built in 1912, the grand granite and limestone building has been designated as a historical building, with many of the original postal windows, safes, and woodwork indicating the splendor of the time.
  • CAPL houses books of all genres, including large print and audio, periodicals, local newspapers, computers, large screen TV, children's computer, games, puzzles, robotic devices, and a keyboard. The library recently added a glowforge Pro; newest technological device which is a flexible, professional quality laser. Its intuitive features bring your imagination to life through all types of media.
  • CAPL hosts Children's Story Time, Craft Sessions for children and adults, Computer Programming, glowforge Classes, and ELL classes. The library has an outside patio and garden area.
