Bridge to Home Animal Rescue

Mission

Our mission is to support our community by placing homeless and abandoned dogs with loving families in permanent homes while providing a temporary safe haven in a caring foster home.

Programs and Services

  • It was a cold January day when the call came in for help. There were 22 dogs living in deplorable conditions. One dog was already deceased, and one was close to dying. There were also two Momma dogs with 10 puppies each. The yard was just dirt that turned into mud due to the recent snowfall, and the dogs were living outside with no shelter. One by one they were carried to safety. Everyone was taken to vet offices for evaluation. The dog that was dying was Snoopy who was diagnosed and treated for parvo for several days in the ICU and survived. There were two Momma dogs each with 9 puppies. Several puppies came down with parvo and spent many days in the ICU. The vet wanted to give up on Forrest and Brooke as they had the worst symptoms and were not recovering after days of treatment. We would do no such thing. We were not going to give up. Just days later, everyone won the battle with parvo. Roxy was one of those Mommas. Roxy was a lost girl who was beaten down. Her eyes were dull as was her coat. Although Roxy was malnourished and extremely underweight, she took great care of her puppies as they were only four weeks old when the authorities seized them and still needed their Mom. Roxy was the best Mom and catered to their every need. A couple weeks later, Roxy arrived to BTHAR along with all the 20 other dogs. She went to a different foster home as her puppies and spent two weeks there where she learned all about playing fetch and how to be a dog. Roxy never met a stranger and found a wonderful home with Bob and Patty. She now enjoys playing fetch in the backyard and snoozing on the couch watching tv. It took three weeks, but everyone found their own families.
  • The West Virginia Lucky 21 story is just one of many stories that we can tell you.
  • Like Rowdy who lived on a chain for nine years. His owner rarely visited his dog box that was nowhere near the house, and they barely fed him. He had an old injury that caused him to walk funny. He now enjoys walks on the beach with his family.
  • There's Wiggles who was brought into the vet clinic in stage 1 labor. She gave birth just a few days later in a foster home to 12 beautiful puppies who all found wonderful homes.
  • Maybelle who was seized by Animal Control at the old age of 10 years old, a Pitbull that had not much of a chance of leaving a kill-shelter without us. Sadly, Maybelle passed away just one month after she found her forever home.
  • BTHAR was started by a handful of ladies who loved dogs and wanted to make a difference in their community, and they have done just that. In November of 2017, we set out to save just 50 dogs a year and to date we have saved more than 4,000 dogs, a few kitties, and a rabbit. Our vet bills have topped $200,000.00 a year for the last three years. We have saved many puppies with parvo, have got prosthetics for Gia a puppy born with no front legs, have done two liver shunt surgeries and a heart surgery.
  • As a nonprofit 501c3 we rely heavily on private donations. If you wish to help with saving unwanted and abandoned animals, please consider donating to our cause. Any amount, great or small makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
