Mission
The American Cancer Society seeks to improve the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
Programs and Services
- The American Cancer Society offers a wide variety of programs and services for individuals facing cancer and their families.
- Resources include rides to treatment through our volunteer-led Road to Recovery program or through various transportation grants with local health systems, free lodging for those undergoing current cancer treatments at one of our 30+ Hope Lodge locations across the country, useful resources and support to navigate the complexities of cancer treatment like our ACS Cares app or our Reach to Recovery program which partners breast cancer survivors with those currently undergoing treatment or diagnosis, hair loss and mastectomy products through our TLC Program, and 24/7 free cancer information that is available online at cancer.org or through our hotline 1.800.227.2345.
Primary Revenue Sources
Fundraising events across western PA including Relay For Life (walk/community event), Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (walk/community event), Men Wear Pink (networking leaderboard), Coaches VS Cancer (distinguished event), Washington County Dinner Dance (gala event), etc.
Primary Fundraising Event
The Washington County primary fundraising event is Chartiers Houston Relay For Life which has raised over 4 million dollars since its first year in 1994. In 2024, the Char Houston Relay teams set out to raise $147,000. As a whole, Relay For Life is also the American Cancer Society’s top-grossing product.
